The first lesson with every student is always some sort of variation of getting to know each other, finding out what level the student is at, why they are taking lessons, what they want out of the lessons, etc. For any new student coming to me, no matter how advanced, I always start with a fresh slate with posture. I have had serious health issues in the past due to improper posture that my teachers never knew to correct until the damage had already been done, which is why proper body alignment is so important to me in my lessons with my students. Instruments: Piano Violin
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time. I encourage the student to see it , believe it and achieve all goals that can be set out to be accomplished. Practice on a daily basis is very necessary when gaining the passion for the chosen instrument. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I have a very personal and relaxed way of teaching that helps each student enjoy and advance on their chosen instrument at their pace. I prefer 60 minute sessions to have the time to fully evaluate and advance from the previous lesson and to move on to new material. I use the student's preferred style of music to teach them how to play, and expand their styles and technique from there. Read More

Hello, thank you for viewing my profile. I see myself as a lifelong student and believe knowledge and skills should be nurtured and passed on and get a great sense of accomplishment from teaching. I am a recent graduate from Arizona State University having earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance studying the classical guitar. Prior to that I was a self-taught electric player playing at local churches and playing with local bands before beginning a formal education. Read More

For my piano students, I typically start beginners with the Primer Level Faber books. I love how this series guides the lessons but also leaves room for creativity and exploration. I feel that this discovery element of music is extremely important. As the student progresses, I give them the opportunity to choose songs that are interesting to them. I also introduce music from different genres in order to expose them to all kinds of music. Read More

I'm a passionate and curious musician. I'm self-taught in the styles of classical and jazz from when I picked up the clarinet I found at a Salvation Army at the age of 10. I taught myself until I started college and studied with Kelly Lake, Stephanie Gardner and currently with Jeff Quamo. While working toward receiving my Masters in Clarinet performance at NAU, I taught music theory and aural perception at the undergraduate level. In addition to teaching I've had two pieces written and recorded for me along with a couple tracks on a comedian's recent albums. Read More
