I've been playing keyboards since the age of ten. I graduated from Arizona State University where I studied music theory and composition. I have a special passion for composing music, and finished 3rd place nationally in the Music Teacher's National Composition Competition in 1987. As a professional musician, I've toured with The Fortunes, and performed with The Coasters and Ritchie Havens. I have just completed my third CD, titled Jazzed Up. I enjoy performing and teaching all styles of music including, classical, jazz, and pop, and love sharing my passion of music with my students. I believe that music instruction should not only be educational, but also enjoyable, exciting and rewarding. I teach how to read music and mainly use Faber & Faber method for both children and adults. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Faber and Faber primer level. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce scales and solo repertoire. My experience in teaching began 15 years ago in working with church choirs and bands, and eventually becoming a Graduate Teaching Assistant from 2016-2018 in the Musical Theatre Opera department at Arizona State University. I have also taught at Childsplay in Tempe, AZ as a Music Director. While reading the notes and rhythms is obviously important, understanding why those notes, rhythms or markings are in the music will help students develop and learn musicianship skills that are often overlooked. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time. I encourage the student to see it , believe it and achieve all goals that can be set out to be accomplished. Practice on a daily basis is very necessary when gaining the passion for the chosen instrument.
