I certainly have adopted the teaching styles of my previous and current instructors, each bringing a unique approach to teaching an instrument. Patience and understand is crucial with any students, and there needs to be a lot of fun and excitement within a lesson, otherwise, what is the point? Now, fun and excitement must also be met with serious practice time and great concentration during a lesson. My objective is to create a comfortable environment fertile for learning, while at the same time having my students know there are skills to refine and concepts to solidify. Read More

Because most of my students are beginners, I typically start with very simple tunes intended to get their hands comfortable with the instrument, and to help them start reading music. After those are mastered, we move on to more complex pieces with greater technical demands. I am always willing to help students learn songs that they are interested in playing. This may not be possible immediately in all cases, depending on the student's skill level. Read More

Most of the work that I have had the privilige of delving into have been masterclasses with individuals trying my very best to incorporate aspects of what I have learned from my time with Don Weilerstein who I consider to be a major mentor figure to me in development both as a musician and a person. As an avid practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism, I have often to my ecstatic wonderment found patterned sychronocities between this sort of brilliant visceral teaching various aspects of Tibetan Buddhism,(particularly the practice of Shamatha and elements of Visualisation), Eastern Energetic practices and spacial/temporal awareness—playing with various methods of getting out of the body to become the rhythm and structure a phrase. -Practicing is important, but the most essential way to improve is to USING THE CORRECT METHOD TO PRACTICE. -A wrong way to practice the piano might lead a dead end no matter how long you spend on the piano, but a good method will cost you less than half the energy to yield the best result in piano playing. -I use the simplest and correct methods to help you play the piano, which was discovered and summarized by my piano knowledge and experience combined with my professors' guideline which was from the Juilliard School, New England Conservatory and the Jacobs School of Music. I want to instill a passion for music in my piano students. To do this, I let each student progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lession and acknowledging the small accomplishments. By finding out what inspires a student, I can tailor my instruction to keep them engaged and eager to learn. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
With younger beginning saxophone students I start them with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book 1. This Provides a great foundation for students to start on and benefits in the long run. For mid range skill level students we start with (depending upon skill) the Rubank beginning or intermediate method book. This provides a lot of melodic material for them to grow as a musician. Lastly, for the advanced we would start with Ferling Etudes which really challenge the student at a higher level. Read More
