ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BM, Manhattan School of Music
Awards:
2015- selected for the Papal Choir for Pope Francis's visit to the US
Overview:
I first started music at a young age through my local church; my first instrument being flute. I studied flute for many years before taking formal voice lessons. This led me to become a voice performance major at the Manhattan School of Music, where I sang lead roles in and outside of the school. In addition, I continued my flute studies as well as strengthen my piano skills. I've had the opportunity to perform at the Kimmel Center as soloist and chorister, Symphonic Space (NYC), as well as abroad in Italy and France. I have performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra and New York Philharmonic.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching shortly after graduating from college, not expecting that teaching would be something I'd be too keen about. However, it has really grown on me and I love the gift of giving music to prospective students and watching them grow and learn as I once did. I have been teaching at various locations/businesses throughout the NJ area from as south as Swedesboro to as north as Trenton. The best part about teaching is being able to create music with my students; showing them that a lesson page can be turned into something greater than just an exercise.
METHODS USED
There are several different method books that I like to use with my students based on age, knowledge/experience, and of course if the method book they use is something they will enjoy; it's very difficult if a student doesn't like the book they're using so I try to give them options. For beginners, I like to use John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course or the Schuam method books. For additional practice and work, I like to use Schaum's Fingerpower and have the student write out the notes then recite them aloud while playing the exercise. For adults, I would continue using these books but at a higher level with supplemental material on the side, which may include solo repertoire appropriate for them and Hanon's Virtuoso Pianist exercises (a few, not all). For voice students, I try to find out what it is they are interested in singing; I am comfortable with all genres but it should be noted that I am classically trained and can work more easily and comfortably for those wanting to sing classical music, musical theater, and church related music.  A student must enjoy what they are working on in order to progress. I try to stress this at every lesson; a student won't practice if they don't like what they are practicing.
LESSON STYLE
I like to challenge my students when I feel they should be. I also try very hard to showcase them whenever possible to show the community the great talent that is amongst us. I would have to say my main approach to teaching is figuring out what works best for each individual student, seeing as though everyone learns differently and at different paces. Forcing a student to learn something when they don't want to is something I do not allow, I can only encourage but not force. The student must love and appreiciate what he or she is working on and that is what I believe leads to success and love in music.

This is my daughter's first time receiving music lessons. Christian is very patient with her and they laugh a lot. He's know what he is doing and my daughter is learning. I would definitely recommend him to others.
