I have spent the past three years living in Miami where I completed my Masters Degree in music education. During this time I was an active trumpet player in south Florida playing with orchestras, brass bands, jazz groups, and quite regularly latin bands due to the popularity of salsa/latin styles in that region. My Bachelors degree was completed in 2006 at the Univeristy of Delware. Positive reinforcement is key. I never learned from the mean or the overly strict teachers. In fact those teachers pushed me in the opposite direction of wanting to pursue music professionally. By going at the pace that is comfortable to the student, and praising them at every hurdle they encounter, the progress made can be exponentially greater than if the student is rushed to prepare a piece of music they don't truly care for in the first place. The roots of my teaching experiences began at the Lagond Music School in Elmsford, NY. There I taught in the College Preparatory Summer Program, and led classes in Theory, Rythym, Improvisation and Sight Reading. I also taught 4th and 5th grade saxophone classes at P.S. 290 in New York City through the Manhattan School of Music outreach program.
