I consider my teaching style to be comprised of two major components - physical and mental. The physical component includes things like picking, strumming, finger strength, finger dexterity, and left hand/right hand coordination. For this, I provide a variety of exercises which do not necessarily require musical knowledge. These can be taught at any time, but are especially valuable early in a student's learning path. For younger children I typically begin with the Alfred Piano Lessons series as I find the songs very accessible, catchy, and the format of the book to be engagaing for kids. The series is also very suited to a complete beginner in its introduction of new concepts and will have the child already playing songs by the end of the first lesson. For older students I will skip over easy material in an effort to simply fill in the gaps of what they already know or can learn quickly and focus on moving them more into music they are interested in playing. I began teaching drums in 2014. I decided to look into giving lessons because of my passion for drumming. I wanted to provide an opportunity for others to discover that same passion. I learned how to play on my own. I listened to songs and studied what the drummer was doing. I would try to replicate what I heard.
