I have had the privilege of teaching piano, composition, music theory, and improvisation to students of all ages for more than nine years. I have also taught chess at schools and programs throughout the U.S. I have organized educational initiatives for prestigious arts institutions including National Sawdust, Red Bull Arts NY and Abrons Art Center NY. Students I have taught range from ages 4-80, and include a wide range of professions and personalities, including visual artists, chefs, atomic physicists, families, teachers, classrooms of up to 20 kids, as well many other musicians. My first experience with teaching voice started in my college days as a children choral class instructor (6- 7 years old) at Yip's Children Choral and Performing Arts Center, a reputable music learning centre in Hong Kong. After graduation, I taught at International Christian Quality Music Secondary and Primary School as an applied music teacher in voice, focusing on the one-on-one student teaching. I always try to guide my instruction in a fun and engaging direction to keep the student interested and motivated to get better. I am able to do this by being energetic and enthusiastic about my teaching and I feel its important to make the material matter to the student. When a student has confidence in their abilities they are able to achieve much success on their specific instrument. As I also previously mentioned, getting to know what inspires a student and knowing them on a more personal level helps develop a better student/teacher relationship and thus yields a better outcome on the instrument. As a member of Trio Mirabile since 2012, I was the first place winner at the American Protege International Competition of Romantic Music which included a performance at the Carnegie Hall, New York where I was awarded with the Judges' Distinction. I was also invited to the artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre. I was also elected to a membership in the national music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda.
