I have been teaching private lessons for about 2 years, both for a company and privately. These lessons include beginner piano, voice, and violin. In my music therapy internship I have also had the experience of teaching adaptive piano, guitar, and ukulele lessons. Finally, while I am not yet board certified and cannot offer music therapy until next school year, I have over 1,000 hours of music therapy clinical experience in which I use musical activities to help clients achieve non-musical goals in the areas of cognition, emotion, physical abilities, communication, social skills and academics. I've started teaching way back before I got into Berklee College of Music, when I was already teaching my younger brother who was 4-5 at that time. Then when I started teaching was about 4 years ago. I never realized how much both the teacher and the student could learn at the same time, not only I learnt how to teach people better, but I also kind of learnt music in different ways by teaching it in different ways to different students. My relationship with the guitar is a fusion of technical mastery and deep emotional connection. As a music producer and sound designer, the guitar has been my creative companion, allowing me to explore various genres from classical to Latin music. My approach to playing the guitar is both passionate and precise, reflecting a commitment to the craft that I've honed while performing with Latin Grammy-winners and other esteemed musicians. Whether in the studio or on stage, the guitar is more than an instrument to me; it's a conduit for expressing thoughts, feelings, and stories. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I often use the Andrew Scott Method for flute. When the student is considerably advance I will use the Rubank Book for flute begginers. Once the student is at a comfortable level, I will proceed to introduce him to Body Mapping. For adults, I will prefer to first of all know more about their learning abilities, other experiences with music/sports. Than, I will find out more what they are looking to learn and work from there. Each student learns at his or her own pace, and as a result I dislike forcing all students into the same step-by-step regimen. I find that laying out preplanned expectations and milestones at the outset is often more for the teachers benefit than the students. Individualizing lesson plans and progress trajectories is much more work on my end, but I find the result much more rewarding for both instructor and student. Read More

From 2002 to present I have taught private lessons and ensembles here at Filedheacht Music School [East Bridgewater, MA] which I own and operate. I have taught throughout my career as time and schedule have permitted since 1983. Consistent practice habits and structure that are responsive to the student's abilites, goals and schedule are the core of my approach. I endeavor to Inspire, Educate and Achieve: in that order! Listening to the student, assessing their abilities, hopes, and possibilities is the first order of business when beginning with me. Read More

For young students starting piano lessons for the first time, I recommend either Bastien or Faber's piano Adventure method books. My older students love Alfred's books. These method books, in my opinion, have motivating pieces and give the students a solid foundation in theory and scales. I also use supplementary materials such as Dozen a Day, Czerny, Kabalevskiy. For students of all ages, I stress that the ears are the most important part of playing or listening to music. Read More
