My teaching style can be as relaxed or driven as the student and/or parent desires. My goal is to ignite a passion for the violin and other instruments so that the student enjoys practicing and wants to get better on his/her own. I teach at the student's pace and keep a journal so that it's easy for the student to see his or her progress. I believe it's also important to have "check-ups" and ask the student if the pace is ok and what other things he/she would like to learn along the way. Each student writes his/her goals and we keep a practice journal to make sure those goals are being met each week.
In 1975 I received a scholarship to study advanced studies on the musical field. I studied with the Teachers: L. Egúrbida, J.S. Fraticelli, E. Frasson, A. Romero, and A. Díaz. In 1980 I finished my musical studies at the Conservatory of Music of San Juan, Puerto Rico and graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE, with specialization in Musical Education and Performing Arts. I was the first native of Curacao Netherland Antilles to study classic Guitar and Musical Education in Puerto Rico. I have played as principal guitarist in renowned musical groups such as Los Ecos and The Polyglots, in several bands, and as a soloist I have given numerous recitals and concerts in the Antilles and abroad. I was selected to be part of the special group responsible for developing a plan for interviews and petitioner’s evaluation to study at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico for the academic year 1980-1981.I also received a scholarship to continue more advanced studies at Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen, Colorado. In 1980 I obtained, recommended by the Administration of the Conservatory of Puerto Rico, very high acknowledgements including THE NATIONAL DEAN'S LIST OF AMERICA and the AMERICAN BIOGRAPHICAL INSTITUTE. I worked as a Music Educator at the Social and Pedagogic Academic Institute teaching Pedagogic and Didactic Principles to while simultaneously teaching classical and popular guitar at the Curacao Netherlands Antilles Cultural Center at all levels and ages. I was the co-founder of the Curacao Guitar-Society (GISO), at present “KITARA KORSOU, N.A.”. He also was the vice-president of the PRODIM (PRO Integral Musical Development) Foundation. In the past I have recorded several records with various well-known musicians. In June, 1984 I gave a series of guitar master-classes. My autodidactic guitar method “MELODIC GUITAR” for beginners from 7 years of age and older, is the first guitar method translated from the Papiamento language into the English and Spanish languages. During 2007 and through 2008 I had a position as a guitar, bass-guitar, piano, and Music Theory Instructor at “THE LATIN MUSICIANS INSTITUE” in Puerto Rico.

It is recommended that young students begin by learning on smaller, half or three-quarter sized guitars. If they are able to hold it comfortably, older students could start off using an electric guitar. A good student model guitar can be obtained brand new for between $150 to $200. However, this price does not include the cost of buying an amplifier or guitar cables, which are essential for an electric guitar player. Higher quality instruments are often easier to play, which provides the student with a much greater chance to enjoy and develop in their learning.
At Musika, we suggest that adult students looking to start guitar lessons do so with a specific aim or goal in mind. This goal might be to write your own music, or maybe to be able to jam along with some of your favorite songs. The teachers in our network have the experience and ability to help you develop your guitar playing skills and achieve your goals. Developing the co-ordination and technical skills required to play competently and fluently can take time. There is no substitute for regular practice and guitar lessons from an experienced tutor.
Young children will start out by learning how to fret notes with one hand, and how to pluck or strum the strings with the other. This will allow them to play simple, familiar songs on one string. Students will also be taught to read music, and will eventually learn how to play the common open guitar chords. Once students are more familiar with the guitar fret board, they can start learning barre chords, movable scales, as well as get introduced to music theory. Advanced students might decide to study classical guitar repertoire, rock or blues solos, or even jazz improvisation.
At Musika, we offer guitar lessons to students as young as 6 years of age. Students in this age category will start off by learning to play simple tunes on the top strings of the guitar. It is most comfortable for students of this age to start off by playing a half sized acoustic guitar with nylon strings. By about 7-8 years old, students will be forming different chords and playing along to their favorite songs. When students get to about 10-12 years old, they may become interested in a specific genre (usually rock) and decide to learn on a full-sized electric guitar.
Musika offers one-on-one, in-home guitar lessons that are designed specifically for each individual student. Whether your lesson takes place in a teacher's studio or at home, students will get the exact same lesson content, with the only difference being the location. Parents will find home guitar lessons a much more convenient option for their child, as it saves the time and costs of transporting their children to and from a studio. Younger students will find that learning to play the guitar in the comfort of their own home greatly benefits their development as they are learning in a supportive, secure, and familiar environment.

Dan gave private clarinet lessons to my daughter, Annie, for two years. During that time, she excelled as a member of the middle school band, and maintained first-chair. Dan is an excellent teacher, and Annie looked forward to having one-on-one time with him. In addition to practicing pieces with her, he helped her with scales and greatly improved her tone quality.

Amber is personal and cares about her students. She is flexible in her schedule and maintains a professional attitude in her lessons. Her want for her students to succeed makes her excel as a teacher. She is very knowledgeable about music and extremely experienced. Additionally, she includes external activities aside from lessons for the students who wish to advance themselves externally. Really a great teacher who offers great opportunity.

Martina has been teaching our daughter violin since early 2015. Every time our daughter has a lesson she comes away in such a great mood - she really enjoys her lessons! Martina is positive and encouraging and adjusts her teaching to help our daughter learn the best way for her learning needs. We were curious about how online lessons would work, and it turns out that they work really well. The 1:1 time and ability to teach from a distance make it work just as well as in person. We've had moves and schedule changes and Martina has been very flexible for us - which made such a big difference in making violin lessons accessible. Absolutely recommend her!

Bill has been great with my 2 young children (age 3 & 6). He has integrated games into the lessons - they have enjoyed showing us how to play the games when it is time to practice piano. Bill has been easy to contact and rescheduling has not been a problem if we have a conflict at our regular lesson time.

Jessie is the finest musician I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I find her overall concept of approaching an instrument to be both comprehensive and effective. Each technique she has acquired has made it possible for her to tailor her method to a variety of ages and individuals. I cannot speak more highly of Miss Jessie's abilities. Her lengthy and impressive cradecials speak for themselves. I recommend no hesitation in seeking her services!

thank you musika and ed. I never thought of looking for an in-home lesson until I found musika. I have absolutely no hesitation that Ed is beyond capable. He's even offered to meet us at a music store to purchase the correct fitting instrument. how fabulous is that! We've also decided to extend the lesson time from 30 to 45 minutes. All this and just one lesson under our belt. He quickly understood where my daughter is at in level and her style of music. I'm thrilled as can be.

Rahsaan is an extremely talented player who relates really well with my teenagers. He has them both interested in learning. Given Rahsaan's expertise, it's clear that even though they are beginners now, they can learn from him for a long time to come. He's a real nice laid-back guy and both the boys really enjoy their time with him. I've been very impressed and pleased with the experience.

Being I'm a woman, I was a little apprehensive having a male teacher (he knew this), however, after my trial lesson I realized he knows what he's doing and I had nothing to worry about!! He is very knowledgable on the piano and vocal techniques. He has a big vocal range so he is able to hit the high notes to be able to show me how I need to sing it. He is also phenomenal on the piano. I would highly recommend him for vocal and piano. Also, I don't know how to sight read music and he is teaching how to. I've been taking lessons with him for a month (my trial lesson was on 1/11) and I have already seen a huge improvement. I am an intermediate level singer looking to improve my vocal technique, breathing and improve my confidence in my singing abilities, Alex is definitely helping me do that.

"Mr. Richard has been absolutely perfect for our very active two boys. He has been an excellent fit for gauging and keeping their interest far beyond what we had imagined. Our boys actually argue over who gets to go first. Mr. Richard knocks it out of the park when it comes to exceeding our expectations"
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
