Another excellent feeling for me as a teacher is when students older than I leave with the satisfaction that comes with improving their musical knowledge and skill as well as an appreciation for how vast the spectrum of musical knowledge is: how even the greatest instrumentalists can and do spend a lifetime learning music.  Teaching is truly a rewarding craft and I am always open to offer my knowledge to those who are open to learning it. My preferred piano method is Piano Adventures and I recommend using the Lesson, Theory, and Sight Reading books at each level. I perform an assessment of new students in the areas of sight reading, music theory, rhythm, performance, and ear training. Read More

I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music and Jazz can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn.
