I cater the lessons towards what the student wants while emphasizing the importance of fundamentals and theory. I incorporate songwriting and improvisation into my lessons, as well as songs the student wants to learn. I believe all students should be encouraged to be creative, while still maintaining a strong emphasis on fundamentals, thus leading to the creation of their unique musical style. Depending upon what area/instrument of music I'm teaching, I use a number of different materials, including (but not limited to) Tonal Harmony (Kostka, et al.), Essential Dictionary of Music Notation, Accent on Achievement, Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, or Rock House Method (McCarthy). The skill level of the student also dictates what resources I'll use. Music has always been my passion. I have an affinity for guitar in particular and love watching people achieve the satisfaction of perfecting their chosen instrument. I find it incredibly rewarding to see students practice and perfect techniques they want to be able to play. In 2003 I joined the Rock On America program at East Coast Music Mall as a student.
