I have been teaching guitar for over ten years. I have taught students of all ages, and all levels ranging from beginners to advanced jazz. I also specialize in music theory, with a vast knowledge and understanding of the theoretical side of music, which I gained from studying at Berklee College of Music. I have also directed students in bands of many different genres! I have worked as a professional musician alongside part time and full time teaching for my entire adult life. Read More

I love to learn the goals of my students. We work towards those goals while having fun! Here are a few things we can get started with: * Learn your favorite songs on guitar. * Learn chords, scales and theory so you can start jamming with your friends and creating your own tunes. * Learn strumming patterns, practice methods, soloing techniques, and more. * Learn about guitars and guitar pedals and getting your own "Tone". I began teaching music informally around 2010 when some of my friends started becoming more interested in learning music. I remember always playing music around my friends, and some of them would ask questions regarding chords, melodies, and basic music theory. After having failed music theory in high school, I pulled a ‘180’ in college, passing all my music theory courses with 90-100% scores. So, I felt I’d be a trusted candidate to start tutoring classmates and friends in music theory. Read More

To me it is one of the greatest rewards to see my students understand a concept or play a difficult passage. I believe it's important for each student to progress at his or her own pace because everyone has a different mindset. I often tell my students to just work on the first and second staff of the music so they don't overload themselves with work. Setting reasonable goals fuels the students desire to progress and gets them excited to continue learning more. Read More

Naturally, my method will adapt to each student's needs. This will depend firstly on what style of music we are working to develop. Next, I will base my approach on the students level of abilities. There are a number of things to consider, such as technique, aural capacity, intuitive understanding, and basic theoretical knowledge, as well as each student's particular personality traits and best method of receiving information. I have a large repertoire of pedagogical literature and performance pieces. Read More

I've been teaching on and off for about the past 10 years. I graduated from Mcnally/Smith College of Music in 2005 and have been teaching ever since. Sometimes my schedule has been more focused on performance as I have done national tours and exstensive recording but I've always been passionate about teaching. I've always enjoyed watching the "lights turn on" as someone gets a new idea or concept and the doors open for them creatively. Read More

Teaching is my favorite thing to do. To help someone grow in their ability to play is really rewarding. I ask the student questions about what they want to learn and structure the lessons around that as well as give them information so they can converse intelligently with other players. The confidence a student gains as they work hard on a challenging assignment and truly get it - this will help them throughout life no matter what they may pursue. Read More
