ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BSBA, Colorado Mountain College (Business Administration) I was accepted into the Master's Program for Jazz Guitar Performance with a $10,000 scholarship. (Attached Photos in my profile show documents to verify this).
Overview:
I am a multi-instrumentalist in Denver/Northglenn, CO. I play guitar, mandolin, squareneck dobro, and pedal steel. In addition to guitar and mandolin I can also teach dobro and pedal steel (these were not options to check on MUSIKA however I am happy to teach them if anyone is interested). I can teach all instruments up to an advanced level (I love teaching advanced players) although beginners are certainly just as welcome! I also can teach a variety of styles my favorites being Bluegrass, Jazz, Blues, and Folk. I am also gigging musician who has played in several Bluegrass, Country, Jazz/Blues bands over the past 10 years.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching private lessons for about 7 years. I have been playing guitar for 20 years, and mandolin, dobro, and pedal steel for 10+. I am passionate about tailoring lessons to tackle exactly what the student wants to learn. I have found that many teachers have a set curriculum to teach students a certain level on competency on an instrument. While this is a valid approach I feel that each situation needs to adapt to the student, so I take pride tackling whatever skills the students wants to learn. I am a firm believer in biting off more than you can chew and succeeding at it! I will devise a lesson plan that is fun and catered to you!
METHODS USED
The type of material we can cover is very broad including scales, arpeggios, chords, chord construction, music theory, music reading, songwriting, learning songs, technique, etc... However it's very important to me to not teach material the student is uninterested in. Music is a language and every genre has its own language aside from music as a whole. For Example: If a student wants to learn how to play bluegrass I will not waste time teaching them Jazz oriented chord voicings, bebop phrasing, and other jazz oriented things. It's not that this isn't useful/important, but it will not be the quickest route to learning to be a competent bluegrass player.
LESSON STYLE
Typically I like to using songs and common chord progressions and incorporate different skills we are working on into songs. This way the student learns a repertoire while learning skills. However this is up for debate and we can cover whatever the student desires. Often times teachers teach a blanket method using certain scales, chords, ect, expecting that this will miraculously result in the improvement the student desires. I am firm believer that this is not the case. It is vital that the student learn stylistically tailored skills that cater to their desires and HOW TO APPLY THESE SKILLS IN THE ACTUAL MUSIC THEY WANT TO PLAY.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
