To me it is one of the greatest rewards to see my students understand a concept or play a difficult passage. I believe it's important for each student to progress at his or her own pace because everyone has a different mindset. Setting reasonable goals fuels the students desire to progress and gets them excited to continue learning more. Read More

In school I was chosen by faculty to play with the CSUN Honorary Guitar Quartet. We were invited to perform at the regional symposium for the Guitar Foundation of America. Read More

I have been teaching music ever since I began to develop a formal education myself. I began by teaching anyone and everyone I could as early as my first year of college. I quickly figured out that anyone could really learn this stuff. I also realized that most people wanted to learn at some point, just never got around to it or stopped believing they could. It has always been my mission to reverse this kind of thinking for those who want it, and help people understand it is never too late to learn. Read More

With beginning students, and even with advanced students, it is important to first agree on a common vocabulary, and asses the level of fluidity in reading musical notation. Next are some basic written exercises to correlate notation and playing in the mind of the student. This initial theoretical tie-in allows for a more substantial expansion in understanding in the long term, as well as a strong basis for the development of one's improvisational capacity. Read More
