I'm a progressive and dedicated instructor who loves to share his personal experience with traditional and non-traditional music. While in college I had the opportunity to sing in several different choral settings (chamber, mixed, men's, small group acapella men's, quartets) working with many different styles and eras of musical composition and arrangement. My senior year also included the opportunity of a tour in South Korea exploring their awesom choral traditions. Read More

For as long as I can remember, music has played a large part in my life. By the age ten, I already knew that music would be more than just a hobby for me, it would become my career. I have been singing and playing piano for over 25 years. I received a BS in music industry studies with an emphasis on business, from the University of Colorado Denver in 2008. I have extensive experience in performance and the music industry as a business, and have had the pleasure of experiencing the local music scene first hand while playing in bands. Read More

Practice Practice Practice! and wanting to practice. Probably the most important thing in music at first. The biggest problem is method in itself. There is not just one way to teach everyone. Music is a lifelong study. It never ends. So learning should be the encouragement of accomplishment. Which has to involve learning some theory but focus on mechanical and listening skills as well. Whether we practice the same drum beat over and over or strumming the same chords its here that we find what we call music. Read More

Once a three-year-old banging out chords on a piano, now a thriving cellist, pianist, percussionist, composer, and amateur recording engineer, my name is Rhett "Ret/R.D.C." North and I am a passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic instructor who loves getting people excited about music! I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition and career certification in Music Technology, and my favorite part in everything I do is joining musicians, from beginner to master, in the joy of learning music. I will always encourage each student, because I believe that everybody has musical ability, and I like to keep competition to a minimum. Everybody has strengths and weaknesses, and it's important to acknowledge the student's strengths as often as possible! The weaknesses are just what we're there to work on. I like to emphasize improvisation, as it's a skill that will follow you everywhere. Above all, though, I want the student to be happy and to love what they're doing. Read More

I would describe my methodology as strength-based but rooted in patience and enjoyment. As each student brings with them characteristics that are physical, mental as well as emotional, learning these characteristics allows me insights which form the creative process. For example, I had a student years ago that had a finger anomaly (he had been bit on the finger by his wife's cat so we called it "cat scratch finger") and this prevented him from laying his ring finger flat on his fretting hand.
