My priorities as a music teacher are student-focused; I adapt my instruction to accommodate students different learning styles and cater to varying levels of prior knowledge. I find it so rewarding to help others find joy through music, whether you are a true novice or an experienced singer or player. While I think it is important for all students to achieve our weekly goals and progress regularly, I also try to cultivate an extremely positive environment so that you will leave each lesson feeling encouraged to continue enjoying your music as you work to improve. Last year, one of my 2nd Grade Chicago Public School Band students performed the National Anthem for memory on the Alto Saxophone in front of 1000's of people at a race. One of my 1st Grade Violin Students impressed the president of Columbia College of Music so much that my students were offered life-time scholarships to attend Blues Kid's Camp, held annually at Columbia College in Chicago. I want new students to have fun and learn things that are interesting to them and benefitial to their musical journey. Children should get their beginnings in technique books and eventually music that stimulates further growth and interest; and adults, like the kids, importance is placed on technique, but even moreso, good practice techniques! As adults we quickly lose patience and revert to bad habits when it comes to practice, and that slows growth, develops poor technique and narrows our abilities to only what we currently know. I have taught piano for nearly a decade. As I was growing up, my mother taught piano in our house and I started learning at five years old. When I was twelve, I took on my first student, who was about four years old at the time. Since then, I have taught in a variety of settings, from double teaming pairs of students with my mother to teaching cello, piano, drums, and basic music skills online to students living in Haiti, France, and across the United States! I have been singing and playing piano for over 25 years. I received a BS in music industry studies with an emphasis on business, from the University of Colorado Denver in 2008.
