I began teaching voice as a school project when I was 14 years old and realized that I I loved it! From then on, I always kept my hand in teaching throughout my high school and college years. I started teaching full time, at which point I added piano and speaking to my repertoire. For piano, I like to begin with fundamentals such as five finger exercises and musical literacy teachings to ensure growth of musical understanding as well as proper technique. I have had great success using the Faber and Faber book series, as this gets students in the music quickly. From there, there is so much solo repertoire to explore! Aside from vocal music, I also played in the wind ensemble on trumpet and had my own funk outfit outside of classes to fullfill my own creative direction. After graduating in the Winter of '11 I moved to Colorado to find a better audience for the funk, jazz and fusion music that I have personally gravitated towards. I've played most of the major venues in Denver, Boulder and the Front Range opening for giants like Victor Wooten and John Medeski, and currently am pursuing my Masters this upcoming Fall for Jazz Composition. I will always encourage each student, because I believe that everybody has musical ability, and I like to keep competition to a minimum. Everybody has strengths and weaknesses, and it's important to acknowledge the student's strengths as often as possible! The weaknesses are just what we're there to work on. For beginning Clarinet lessons I start with the basics and fundamentals from assembling and disassembling the instrument along with proper cleaning, Storage and proper placement of fingers for playing and basic breathing techniques.
