I am a driven and compassionate teacher with an equal passion for music and teaching. I graduated from Luther College in May 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a minor in Education. I started studying around 5 years old and went through alot of instruments and eventually realized that I was really motivated by singing. I auditioned for Performing Arts High School and ended up getting accepted my junior year of high school. This was a big thing for me as I learned about the different levels of music prowess and it opened me to other styles. Since the age of 14 I played in a band of some sort. Read More

I want new students to have fun and learn things that are interesting to them and benefitial to their musical journey. Children should get their beginnings in technique books and eventually music that stimulates further growth and interest; and adults, like the kids, importance is placed on technique, but even moreso, good practice techniques! As adults we quickly lose patience and revert to bad habits when it comes to practice, and that slows growth, develops poor technique and narrows our abilities to only what we currently know. I have been teaching music ever since I began to develop a formal education myself. I began by teaching anyone and everyone I could as early as my first year of college. I quickly figured out that anyone could really learn this stuff. I also realized that most people wanted to learn at some point, just never got around to it or stopped believing they could. It has always been my mission to reverse this kind of thinking for those who want it, and help people understand it is never too late to learn. Read More

I believe in positive affirmation and goal setting. My goal with all students is that they enjoy learning, become self-motivated to practice, and consider their musical abilities as a gift which they can choose to share with others whenever they feel comfortable to do so. I have experience using a variety of method books and can easily recommend appropriate materials. I also encourage students to share with me and allow me to help them learn their favorite music, as well, even if that involves writing it out with or for them. Read More

I completed my bachelor's in music performance at the University of Wyoming in 2014, and have just completed my first semester as a Master's student in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. As stated above, I believe that emotion plays an integral role in the mastery and performance of any instrument. Consequently, my teaching style revolves around the use and application of emotion in play. A simple example of this would be a simple discussion of the differences between major and minor chords and the relative emotion conveyed by each, as interpreted by the student. Positive reinforcement also comes into play as each step the student takes towards applying their emotional self to their instrument is recognized and acknowledged. Read More
