Practice Practice Practice! and wanting to practice. Probably the most important thing in music at first. The biggest problem is method in itself. There is not just one way to teach everyone. Music is a lifelong study. It never ends. So learning should be the encouragement of accomplishment. Which has to involve learning some theory but focus on mechanical and listening skills as well. Whether we practice the same drum beat over and over or strumming the same chords its here that we find what we call music. Read More

As stated above, I believe that emotion plays an integral role in the mastery and performance of any instrument. Consequently, my teaching style revolves around the use and application of emotion in play. A simple example of this would be a simple discussion of the differences between major and minor chords and the relative emotion conveyed by each, as interpreted by the student. Positive reinforcement also comes into play as each step the student takes towards applying their emotional self to their instrument is recognized and acknowledged. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice
My teaching experience truly began in my high school days, mostly in the leadership roles I had in choir. I was often in charge of sectionals and teaching music to the choirs. This really took off in my college career. Through the teacher education program, I have had several field experiences with both teaching classroom music and individual lessons. I have a couple semesters under my belt of private instruction as well as piano. Read More
Instruments: Voice Fiddle Music
I've been teaching and leading sectionals for four years now, and have taught lessons on both fiddle and voice! It's an honor to be able to spread the love of music to students, as music has changed my life. Consistent practice is important, but so is finding what the student loves to practice. Music should be fun, even as it's hard work! Students are encouraged to write, explore their own creativity, and explore other avenues of music beyond performance, like learning music theory and notation, as well as the basics of music software, if they're interested.
