I have been steadily teaching private lessons since I was at Berklee, nearly 10 years ago. I almost always have taught lessons at my own studio where students come to me because that always seems to be the most conducive environment for learning and getting inspired. I've taught complete beginners at the toddler age, and even retired people in their 70s. I enjoy teaching because each student has different needs, different interests, and most importantly digest and internalize new information differently. Read More

I am a patient teacher with a former career/background in counseling. I love music and I want my students to love it too! I played in the instrumental surf band, Venice Beach Muscle Club; we played traditional melodic melodies and surf standards but we also wrote arrangements that stretched the genre to include familiar melodies from indie rock, new wave, and 60's rock. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and have been living and teaching music here my whole life. Read More

I graduated from SUNY Purchase where I received my Bachelor's in Music Composition. I've performed all over the country with my original indie folk songs, mainly focusing my touring efforts on the SouthEast over the past few years. I've also worked with children in various settings for the past 15 years. I've worked in daycare, pre-K, have babysat, and have led my own original Music and Movement classes for 3-5 year olds. My teaching style is grounded in my own absolute love for music! This passion translates through in my teaching, which hopefully results in successful student learning. I also believe that the teacher needs to develop a rapport with the student, in order for successful learning. Furthermore, as previously stated, I've studied pedagogy at the undergraduate level. I realize what it takes to be a successful teacher, and believe in the importance of exposing young people, as well as folks of all ages, to music and the arts. Read More

I perform as a multi-faceted bassist, in a mixture of genres and ensembles, enjoying the variety and breadth of musical opportunities I find myself in. I have experience playing in orchestras, jazz ensembles, rock, funk, and blues bands, and am active as a composer and conductor as well. My formal education culminated in a B.A. in Music History Literature from Hood College, where I graduated in 2010 magna cum laude and with departmental honors. Read More

I like to lay a foundation for what musical notes are and how they relate to the instrument. If we're on guitar I will draw a piano keyboard and give the student the guitar string names and make them figure out the rest of the notes. Then I teach them what chords are and, now that they know their way around a fretboard, they can build the chords themselves. While most students aren't total beginners and won't need all of this groundwork to be laid by me, I've found that almost everyone has gaps in knowledge, more often than not when it comes to actual note names and the music theory behind the instrument.
