As a teacher, I have worked on vocal technique and coached audition material with many fellow actors. I have also worked with high-schoolers on material from musicals. I am a very patient, fun and challenging teacher for all skill levels.  I have small recording studio in my home that I use to make demos for my students, or record lessons and backing tracks. I love to have fun in my lessons. No single student understands the same thing the same way so I take the time to listen/understand them as a person and as a musician. While it would be wonderful if all of my students became virtuosi musicians, I understand that sometimes math class may be at the forefront of their attention. That said, practice is still required. I believe that variety is the spice of not only life, but also music. I grew up singing folk music with a musical family (think accordions, guitars and lots of vocal harmonies). I learned guitar and piano at an early age and began singing even earlier. My quest to give the world the best my vocal cords could offer led me to obtain an undergraduate degree in vocal performance from the University of Nebraska (where I graduated honorable mention, named with the vocal departments Outstanding Senior in Music award, and also obtained a minor in theatre) and a masters degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Shortly after I graduated from University, I was asked to start lecturing. I began with a few principal studies students, and soon I was asked to conduct and direct the Jazz Department's Vocal Ensemble. My student list grew, as did my contribution to one of the top Universities for contemporary music in Australia. I developed curriculum for voice students, became an examiner, directed small jazz ensembles, world music ensembles, vocal masterclasses and once I had graduated with a Master of Philosophy, I began thesis supervision for Honours and Masters students. I earned my Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA with Kevin McMillan. During my time in Harrisonburg, I founded Harrisonburg Opera Theatre and was the church choir director at Sunnyside Retirement Community Meredith Chapel. I completed my Post-Graduate Artist Diploma in Voice at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of acclaimed opera singer, Deborah Voigt. While in San Francisco, I interned in the Education Department of San Francisco Opera and taught Kindergarten and First grade music with the San Francisco Conservatory in the Schools mentor-ship program.
