Since I took my first piano lessons as a child, I've dedicated my life to learning as much as I can about music both inside and outside of school and spreading the joy to others. I have been performing consistently with groups since my teen years: first jazz combos, ensembles and University orchestras, and more recently rock and metal acts. I have extensive experience touring, and encourage students to draw on my knowledge as both a studio and live performer. Read More

My teaching style is very flexible. If I see that a particular lesson isn't working, I will change to a lesson covering something the student is more interested in, and possibly not as intimidated. The main thing is for the student to gain confidence in what he/she is trying to learn. I also think that teaching my students to read music in standard notation is a very important aspect of my teaching. Read More

For beginner that are children ... I use "Excellence in Theory" by Ryan Nowlin Bruce Pearson ... to cover music theory and ear training. After completion of this work I move the student to Bela Bartok's MikroCosmos Volume 1 or other available method books. I also come up with materials of my own from time to time ... each student is different ... so I take the approach of learning the student as I work with them ... with the idea that I will tailor the education to work best for the student! My teaching experience dates back to a month after I picked up the guitar, when I started teaching a group of highschool friends how to play. Later, at the Field School, I created a club for other Field students to learn how to play guitar in a group setting. At the same time I took a job as a clerk at the local guitarshop and began teaching beginner students privately. Read More

Every lesson plan I make is customized to a student's interests, learning needs, and age. I combine a combination of technique focus and repertoire learning in each lesson. As students progress, their plans are updated to reflect their growth as a musician. I like to involve students directly in the goal planning process and keep them regularly updated about where they are on meeting their goals. Furthermore, teaching sustainable, healthy, and effective practice techniques is a core part of how I teach. Read More

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
Since I've been playing music, a lot of people have started gathering around me. They came to me when I was performing or enjoying myself. During my college days, I learned a lot about my friends because of the music, and they gave me a lot of help when they were struggling with music. I also created a career studio to help more people as I began to teach my envious friends how to play and how to play. At that time, I became a guitar instructor and I am happily teaching students.

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
My family is all musicians. Every family member can play from one to eight instruments, and is active everywhere. Especially guitars can play well and sing well. It is one of the happiest moments when family members play music together. Sometimes I invite people I know to open mini-concerts and give them happiness.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
If I did not become a musician, I would be a university professor. It is my dream to become a professor and teach students what they have and to make them better society.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I like classical music very much. Classic is a high-level, deep-seated piece of music that has been trained through a long history. It is also one of the reasons why I like classical music that it is easy to master other music genres after mastering classical music.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I can play harmonica in addition to guitar. Harmonica can play with guitar while hanging on the neck together. So I started playing harmonica and now I can play well. At first it was a bit difficult to learn differently from the guitar, but the harmonica was simple and could get used to it soon. Since then I've been playing harmonica with guitar accompaniment.

If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
I do not have a special music degree. However, I do not need a separate degree because I have learned and practiced so much that I can not miss Degree. It is a lesson that emphasizes practicality rather than Degree, so we are prepared to meet the needs of students.

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
My dream is to create an ensemble of various age groups. It is my dream that I want to make an ensemble that can give an impression and joy to the audience as well as solving the conflict between the generations by playing together and widening the understanding of each other and narrowing the age gap.

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
My usual student practice is calm. Students are not involved when practicing. During the exercise, the important thing is to take notes and then explain them step by step. To keep students engaged in practice, they maintain a stable state of mind. If your mind is not stable, you will easily lose concentration or lose interest. In order to prevent that, we make the atmosphere as stable as possible.

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
The guitar can be played simply for singing accompaniment depending on the purpose, or it can be performed as a solo or ensemble at a high level. Singing accompaniment can be learned without difficulty. However, you need to learn a variety of methods to achieve a high level of performance. The hardest thing was to play notes on the beat.

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
The guitar lesson I teach is Step by Step. It starts out very easy at first and gradually goes up to a higher level. Since I have studied not only music but also various fields, I look at the students' psychology and develop them accordingly. I use the materials I have created to learn the code. It is not only for general music but also for other guitars, so you can learn it easily because it starts with the code that can easily be caught by the human body and it is difficult to learn by the code. We use Hal Leonard and many other materials for classical and special performances.

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded? My students have never been specifically awarded. Because my lessons are not meant to be a prize, but to make life happier, the students I have taught are happy to be performing in many places. Recently, I was fortunate to be selected as a music talent coordinator in a group of students who was recognized by my ability.

When I Was Your Man Chords for Beginner Guitar (Bruno Mars)

...lightly. This creates more energy and motion. Perfect for increasing the intensity of the song, especially during the chorus.   Basic Fingerstyle Technique   When I Was Your Man is perfect for beginning fingerstyle players. The right hand is notated as follows: P = Thumb I = Index M = Middle A = Ring   I find that using a pick to strum the chords can be a little too harsh sounding for the mood of this tune. For that reason, I suggest using your fingers to pluck and strum the chords. Let’s begin by assigning the right-hand fingers to certain strings:   The... Read More

Soprano Musical Theatre Songs: Suggestions for Singers

...Unfortunately for sopranos, the bulk of women’s belter Musical Theatre repertoire lies within the mezzo soprano range. Although they’re less plentiful, contemporary options that help sopranos develop the skills to belt healthfully not only exist but also continue to be composed, such as:   Belter and Contemporary Musical Theatre Songs “Christmas Lullaby” from Songs for a New World (Jason Robert Brown) “Not A Day Goes By” from Merrily We Roll Along (Stephen Sondheim) “Someone Like You” from Jekyll & Hyde (Wildhorn and Bricusse) “With You” from Ghost the Musical (Stewart and Ballard) “Your Daddy’s Son” from Ragtime (Flaherty and Ahrens) While most Musical ... The young violinist was given the chance to play on the “David” Guarneri del Gesu. She won the right to borrow the instrument, and went on to a world-famous career in violin. Today, in order to borrow one of the Stradivari Society’s instruments, the musician is contracted to use the instrument only if he or she can pay for the insurance on it. The borrower is also required to perform three concerts per year for the sponsoring patron. The instruments are subjected to ... Read More

Types of Trumpets: Keys, Size, History, and Performance Practice

...post we will explore the different kinds of trumpets, where they came from, and the performance practice traditions of each. Enjoy!   Trumpets Without Valves Different types of trumpets have been around for a long time, and by a long time, we mean over 3,000 years. They haven’t always been as musical as they are now though: ancient trumpets were used as hunting horns, war calls, and signals for the arrival of royalty. Some scholars believe that trumpets were even used by the Egyptians in 1500 BC. In all likelihood, the trumpet wasn’t used musically (at least in our sense of ... Read More

Step 1: Pick a pitch somewhere closer to the bottom of your range. Step 2: Pick one of the five vowels and sing a scale up and down on that vowel. Go slow and concentrate on making sure your voice does not waver in and ... Read More
