Overview:
I am an acoustic percussive guitarist currently working in the greater Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. I have been teaching guitar almost as long as I've been playing guitar, starting with just friends and family but eventually moving on to support myself as a private instructor. I have apprenticed with UDC Jazz Band Guitarist Pete Muldoon and Matt Kelley (of the blues band "Big Boy Little"). I supported myself in highschool by working in DC's local guitarshop, which is where I started teaching my first students.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to a month after I picked up the guitar, when I started teaching a group of highschool friends how to play. Later, at the Field School, I created a club for other Field students to learn how to play guitar in a group setting. At the same time I took a job as a clerk at the local guitarshop and began teaching beginner students privately. When I moved to college I started my own small business teaching local students and young professionals guitar in order to support myself while I attained my degree. This led to a job working at the college as a music assistant. Now, I am teaching privately full time again and am happy for any opportunity to meet and assist new students!
METHODS USED
Students that work with me start with a free 30 minute consultation either at my studio or over Skype. The student and I meet, I ask a lot of questions, and then at the end of the session I provide the student with a long-term and short-term curriculum plan. If, after the consultation, the student decides to take a slot, I provide them with an assignment to complete before our next lesson. I also provide a "digital workbook" accessible on your Mac/PC web browser or iOS/Andriod mobile device. Lessons usually begin with a rehashing of last weeks subjects and assignments. Once I see how far you've progressed I answer questions and then begin to cover new material. At the end of the lesson we review and I assign the next weeks homework.
LESSON STYLE
Students that work with me aren't getting a teacher who won't challenge them to reach their goals. Like many of the students that come to me for lessons, I learned guitar at a relatively late age well into my teens. I was able to catch up to my peers by maintaining a diligent, intentional and varied practice regiment. I am half your teacher, half your coach. At the end of every lesson you will walk away with a clear idea of what your goals are, what you are going to practice this week and why I chose the homework I assigned. I accommodate young students by mixing in play with rote-practice and constantly communicating with parents so that they can help guide their child's practice at home. I work alongside adult students by making sure that I take into account the breadth of their ambition against their time constraints when creating their regiments. The truth is that, if you are just learning guitar or trying to significantly improve, you are taking on a substantial commitment. Music, like any art, takes discipline. There are no short cuts, and I won't lie and say this is going to be easy. However, I will guarantee that if you are committed to this endeavor I will give you the coaching you need to reach your goals.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
