As for beginners, I would recommend Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements-Flute, Book 1. For more experienced players, I would recommend De la Sonorité and 24 Progressive Studies for Flute, along with the Trevor Wye Practice Books. More specifically, we would focus on the Tone, Technique, and Breathing and Scales books. As the student moves forward, we can have a more detailed discussion about solo works. I believe in a strong foundation for beginning students and I make sure that is the first part of every lesson, the same way an athlete exercises to stay in shape, a musician must also maintain the facility on their instrument. After fundamentals have been addressed the student moves to solo repertoire, one piece picked by the student, then one picked by me.
