It is such a joy to see my students develop a love and passion for music! When we have been working on a concept that might be harder than others and the student finally understands the concept, there is such a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment for both myself and the student. Because progression is so important, I strive to set goals for my students at each lesson. As the goals are met and acknowledged, the student is more eager to continue learning. As the student and I work together, I seek to instill a love for music and a drive to do well not only in music but in everything they do in life.

Since teaching my first piano lessons 10 years ago I realize that, as a teacher, you never stop learning.  There can always be better ways to do things.  I believe that a holistic view of teaching provides a full spectrum of knowledge to my students; this includes theory, improvisation, and popular tunes (in addition to sight reading and technique).  I try to increase motivation to play the piano by asking them what their favorite songs are and then finding a way to arrange them to their level.

I like to focus on songs that students are interested in. I also recommend certain books to be used as supplementary learning. For children guitarists I recommend Alfred's Kid's Guitar Course. For older guitarists I recommend Hal Leonard's Guitar Method. For children pianists I recommend Faber Piano Adventures.

I am a positive, energetic instructor and performer who loves working with students of all ages and backgrounds. I completed my bachelor's in music performance at the University of Wyoming in 2014, and have just completed my first semester as a Master's student in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. In my time as a performer I have enjoyed performing many roles such as Yum-Yum in Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado, Fiona in Brigadoon, and Marty in Grease. I find joy in indulging in all styles of music and have found such value in exploring each of these styles in my own work, as well as with my students.

I'm a progressive and dedicated instructor who loves to share his personal experience with traditional and non-traditional music.  While in college I had the opportunity to sing in several different choral settings (chamber, mixed, men's, small group acapella men's, quartets) working with many different styles and eras of musical composition and arrangement.  My senior year also included the opportunity of a tour in South Korea exploring their awesom choral traditions.  Aside from vocal music, I also played in the wind ensemble on trumpet and had my own funk outfit outside of classes to fullfill my own creative direction.  After graduating in the Winter of '11 I moved to Colorado to find a better audience for the funk, jazz and fusion music that I have personally gravitated towards.  I've played most of the major venues in Denver, Boulder and the Front Range opening for giants like Victor Wooten and John Medeski, and currently am pursuing my Masters this upcoming Fall for Jazz Composition.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
