Overview:
Hello, my name is Bailee Thompson and I am a passionate individual who absolutely loves music and loves to share that with others. In 2025, I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance. While I was there, I’ve had the opportunity of performing in every large ensemble and the orchestra as well. Currently, I am pursuing my Masters of Music in Flute Performance at the University of Northern Colorado. Some of my achievements include winning the Texas Flute Society Scholarship in 2021, being a finalist in the University of Texas-Arlington concerto competition and most recently, winning the University of Northern Colorado’s concerto competition. I am also on the sub list for the Fort Collins Symphony.
EXPERIENCE
Dating back to 2019, I was teaching students part time at the local middle schools in my hometown. I have since moved away and I am looking to get back into teaching. As someone who had gaps of time where I did not have a teacher, I feel that having someone there to encourage you to keep going and to keep learning is the most important to ensure success. Having a consistent teacher can definitely help a student go further with their capabilities as a musician. If there’s something you want to accomplish, you can count on me to support you.
METHODS USED
As for beginners, I would recommend Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements-Flute, Book 1. For more experienced players, I would recommend De la Sonorité and 24 Progressive Studies for Flute, along with the Trevor Wye Practice Books. More specifically, we would focus on the Tone, Technique, and Breathing and Scales books. As the student moves forward, we can have a more detailed discussion about solo works. I would also recommend for older, dedicated players to possibly look into playing orchestral excerpts. Good books include Jeanne Baxtresser’s Orchestral Excerpts book and The Orchestral Flute Practice Book 1 by Trevor Wye.
LESSON STYLE
Everyone is different and they have different goals for themselves. As a teacher, it’s difficult to learn by being rushed or lagging behind, so I believe it’s important that every student is able to learn at their own pace. I encourage this by highlighting accomplishments, no matter how small, so that way it can encourage a student to want to keep learning. Most importantly, I want to see and learn all about what inspires the student and recognize the goals they have to propel them forward towards a love for music.
