I like to get to know my students before real in depth work can begin. Why are you interested in music? Why flute specifically? What other activites interest you? etc. I ask these questions so that analogies can be made to show how most things apply to all interests. Practice techniques in sports are similar to those in music for example. Knowing a student's personality outside of music also helps when setting goals, such as what to work on specifically in each lesson, what they are working towards in their own practice, and what future plans they have for music. My training method is ideal for students who wish to explore music as a hobby as well as those who wish to run a career in the music industry. An experience that stands out, outside of my studio teaching, dates back to 2015 when I was invited at the Annual Conference of the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki to give a two hour lecture followed by a Q&A session on Flute Pedagogy. While it is a learning environment, I hope for my students to enjoy and love music that they're playing. I believe that you must enjoy the process in order to make or see progress. Therefore, it is extremely important that we set realistic goals for each of their own. Accomplishments help the students and makes them eager to learn more. I like to tailor my teaching to my students' wants and needs and bring in pieces that they're interested in. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I rose to become section leader of the clarinet section in band and section leader of the alto section in choir. Since then, I have been teaching private lessons to students of all different ages and skill levels, as well as individuals with disabilities. Encouraging practice schedules and routine is something I like to emphasize in younger students. I aim to bring my students individual musical interests into our class as that tends to keep them more engaged. Read More

For a young child to love music, a teacher must introduce it to him or her in a passionate way, without forcing it one the child. The struggling student is just as capable of loving music, just as much as the accomplished one. As I mentioned earlier, all students learn at different paces, so I teach each student as close as humanly possible to their level. It is not important for a child to play like a professional musician, but to play like the student has put his or her heart into learning the music. Read More

I focus on the individual more than anything else. I tailor my teaching style to each student. When something clicks for them, I stick with it and adapt to keep the student engaged, interested, and passionate about music. If I find a student is not fond of a certain book or solo, we change course together. Sharing my passion for music is very important to me, and being able to do so with students is incredibly rewarding to both parties. I always go at whatever pace the student is comfortable with to keep their success rates high. Read More

For beginning woodwind students, I have had success using the Rubank method books as a starter. Alongside a method book, I like to work on material chosen by the student, as well as my own supplemntal exercises. It is important for the student to understand the musical concepts associated with the repertoire, as well as focusing on performing well. I also prefer to have my students keep a practice log book, in order to track their progress. For piano and music theory, I like to use the John Thompson method for beginner students, and the Bastien Piano Literature series for more advanced students. Read More
