Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet

My professional experience includes regular broadway sub work (Pippin and Honeymoon in Vegas), at Radio City Music Hall and with the New York City Ballet Orchestra. I have over ten years of teaching experience at the university level as a teaching assistant, at the conservatory as an instructor (Conservatory at Mount Royal University in Canada) and also privately. I want all my students to have a strong foundation of technique and theory, so I have all my students wok on scales and scale patterns. For a students solo repertoire, I will give all my students lots of choices. I use collections such as Forty Little Pieces for Beginner Flutists (Louis Moyse) for beginners, 24 Short Concert Pieces (Hal Leonard) for intermediate, but I also have my own supplemental repertoire list with music for all levels (especially more advanced). Dependent on the instrument, I generally use essential musical workbooks as well as my own scales and exercises that create a better base to suppliment the workbooks.  I find that these general books are useful to keep the student's growth on track, however, my own sound exercises alllow wind players to usually progress at a quicker rate.  For more advanced students, once we have discussed what each student hopes to get out of their lessons and what they generally see themselves doing with their instruments in the next few years, we can decide what pieces to work on and what skills to develop. Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet Music

My first true teaching experience happened around the age of sixteen, which was by tutoring my siblings friends and preparing them for NYSSMA. I found this to be a truly enjoyable experience and realized that this was a passion that I wished to pursue in the future. From there, I enrolled in several music education courses when I attended Berklee College of Music. After learning from a variety of different music educators from various different backgrounds, I felt that I found my calling and knew that I was pursuing a career that I was passionate about. I always begin a lesson with having the student play a song/piece of their choice, so that they can feel confident and comfortable in their own skin and in the lesson space. For wind instruments, long tones and scales will occur at the beginning of the lesson, and will be followed by study of an etude and/or piece of repertoire. I will ask the student to sing through the piece, so that the student can make a connection with their own voice and with the music, followed by the student reading through the piece with their instrument. I am no drill sergeant, but I wont lie to you either. I know when you've practiced and when you haven't. I encourage you and always be honest with you about your progress. I am on your side and want you to succeed.  That being said, I have a fairly structured lesson. Starting with a breif warm up, we wilk touch upon a review of the previous lesson, technique drills, and then the music we are currently workung on. Read More

Instruments: Piano Flute

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
