I am an enthusiastic and talented music instructor who loves working with students and sharing my passion for music.  I graduated from the University of Mary Washington in the Fall of 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music.  I have a wide variety of musical talents, including theory, performance and composition.  My primary instrument is flute and I am comfortable teaching any age group and any skill level. I currently teach elementary general music and 4th/5th grade band lessons in a Brooklyn public school-the New York City Department of Education. I personalize my lesson plans and drills to accommodate the student's strengths, weaknesses, and over all goal. I will push you to your limits so you can go even further than you thought you could. For my beginning students who are children, I may start them with Hal Leonards Essential Elements and/or the Rubank Method. Once they begin to learn the basics and and can grasp the fundamentals, I can begin to introduce solo pieces. For adults, I try to learn about what level the student is and what their interests are so that I can cater my lessons accordingly. When I teach, I like to make sure my students feel welcome and encouraged. I will always praise them when they make improvements, no matter how small, but I will still make sure they know what it is they have to work on without reprimanding them. I always teach flute in an encouraging atmosphere and I strive to help students reach their goals. I think it is extremely important to recognize students’ accomplishments while also encouraging them to continue to work on areas still needing improvement. At the end of lessons, I always make it clear what is expected to be prepared for next week and provide students with suggestions about how to work on the materials. Read More
