After several years of teaching there I moved on to teaching full time privately with students ranging from ages 7 - 35. Ive been teaching piano for the last 20+ years and love opening the world of music to my students. I started learning piano at age ten and continued my music education for 10 years. I was grateful to have mostly one-on one instruction, since this really trained me to be an empathetic teacher, focused on the needs of the individual student. My goal as a teacher is to address each of these three categories, allowing my singers to grow in each of them. In lessons with beginner and intermediate students, I utilize the Rubank method books. Once a student has mastered those, we move onto etude books. I assign scale exercises and repertoire to all of my students, and I like to introduce beginner music theory when appropriate. My students practice duets and sight-reading in lessons with me, and this combination of materials gives the student the most comprehensive learning experience. I also encourage my students to bring any repertoire or music they find on their own to a lesson. Read More
