I have been teaching since 2007, and have worked with nearly all levels -- from the ultra beginners who have never held a flute to the advanced flutist who has gone on to place in competitions or won collegiate scholarships. I've had 6-year-old students and 60-year-old students. In addition, I also have given workshops on topics such as stage presence, vibrato, and intonation, and have conducted three different flute choirs. I began teaching private students while in college through a music store in Ellicott City, MD. I taught students from age 6 to 15. I had up to 15 students on varied occasions. I maintained students on and off throughout my 7 years of music teaching in public schools following graduating from college, but lost many students when I relocated from Baltimore to Lancaster. I first started teaching as a teenager, helping out in a religious classroom on the weekends during the year, and as a summer camp counselor in the summer. I have performed all across the state of Pennsylvania, in Connecticut, New York, Delaware, and as far away as Italy. I believe that studying music has value far beyond simply learning an instrument. I hope that my students are inspired by music, and really feel the freedom to treat it as a creative outlet. Additionally, practicing consistently teaches discipline. Even for beginners, it is better to practice for 10 minutes every day than four hours once a week.
