ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

PA Teaching Certification, Music K-12 from Immaculata University, Immaculata, PA. Obtained September 2020

Master of Music in Jazz Studies from University of the Arts, Philadelphia PA. Obtained December 2015

Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from Moravian College, Bethlehem, PA. Obtained May 2014

Overview:

Music has been a big part of me for most of my life. I started playing piano at age 8 and saxophone at age 9. During hish school and college, I recieved many awards and recognitions for my playing. I recieved my Bachelors in 2014 and my Masters in 2015. During my musical studies, I have studied with many stellar musicians and teachers, and I strive to impart the same amount of excitement and energy to my students that these musicians imparted to me. I have studied both classical and jazz (as well as the many styles that get grouped under that jazz umbrella) music extensively, so I am able to help you achieve any musical goals you wish to achieve!

EXPERIENCE

I have played with an extensive list of musical groups in various styles. I have been a part of the Hazleton Liberty Band (which has roots tracing back to the Civil War) and church groups since high school. In college, I was a part of smal woodwind chamber ensembles, concert band, choirs, marching band, big bands, and small jazz ensembles. I continue to stay active in many diverse musical groups. As a teacher, I have taught private lessons, small and large jazz groups, concert bands, and in a classroom situation. I believe that being a part of diverse musical ensembles is essential to musical education. Many core concepts can be found in any style of music, and playing with as many people as you can find in many situations helps to make you the best possible musician you can be. Overall, I believe that music should give you joy and happiness, regardless of if you want to do it as a profession or hobby. I want to use my experiences to help you grow as a musician while ALWAYS enjoying making music!

METHODS USED

For beginner flute and sax students, I like to work out of the Standard of Excellence Books, and for beginner piano I like to use Bastien Series books. I have used these books in my development and am very comfortable and confident with their ability to help studnets progress. Once my students reach a level where they have a pretty solid understanding of music, I start to give them more freedom into choosing what they want to do. At this point I will start working with etude and technical exercise books like Rubank, Hanon, Czerny, and/or Ferling.

LESSON STYLE

I feel like I have a very loose teaching style that is grounded in the fundamentals. I do not put deadlines or timelines on any student's progress, and I also realize that each student's needs are unique to each and every person. I work to give each and every student a very solid understanding of music (being able to sit at a piano or pick up a horn and play music, be able to recognize and understand the theoretical aspects of music, aurally discern chord progression and when a wrong not is played to understand why chords move they way they do and be able to easily hear your own musitakes). I will tailor these topics towards a students interest so they can underatand the layouts of songs they enjoy.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
