Music has enriched my life in many ways, connecting me with people in the community and providing a positive outlet for self-expression! I hope to instill that passion in the students that I teach. I strive to provide a safe and fun learning environment for students, but I also stress the importance of practice, dedication, and discipline. I dialogue with students to determine what goals would be realistic for our lessons, and I seek to build trusting and positive relationships as we meet those goals together. Read More

I don't use a single method for all my students; rather, I assess their needs and then choose or create a method. I do, however, always start students in a lesson book series. I typically Faber's Piano Adventures or Adult beginner books, although I have also used the American Popular Piano lesson series. I also create technique exercises (scales, arpeggios, etc.) for students each week. As the student progresses through the lesson series, I begin to add solo repertoire and to encourage memorization. Instruments: Piano Organ Keyboard
My approach to teaching is, basically, that playing piano should be enjoyable and fun so I tailor the lessons to the type of music in which the student has interest. I do, however, have a basic structure that includes reading music, finger dexterity and songs at the student's playing level. If there is an interest in contemporary music I have an "easy to learn" approach to chords and accompaniments. I also give lessons in music composition. Read More

I am a dedicated and motivated instructor who loves working with students of all ages to share my love of music. I have always had an interest in music, and that really blossomed into something more when I started playing the clarinet in elementary school. In 2021, I graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. Being able to share my love of music with my students has been the highlight of my career, that's what makes my job worth it. Read More

I recommend that anyone starting to learn music begins at the age of ten simply because of finger strength and focus. I also try to ensure that they practice at a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes a day between lessons to help them reach their full potential. I stand by the "practice makes perfect" saying wholeheartedly. I give small amounts of homework after every lesson and try to create a fun environment for learning that is stress-free. Read More

Great music lessons are a mix of solid technique building and fun application of those skills. I always spend the first few lessons getting the student familiar with the basic technique of the instrument, and then quickly move on to duets, improvising, sight reading, solos, etc. that tie in with the current technique studies. Music can also be heard or read, so I try to strike a balance between reading music/theory and learning/improvising by ear. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Viola Recorder
For my youngest students, age 7 and under, I begin with Adventures in Violinland, a wonderful method written by Shirley Givens, instructor at Peabody Preperatory. This teaches note reading with a solfegg system. It has a strong emphasis on technique. For beginners ages 8 and up, I use either Essential Elements or Sound Innovations, usually matching it with whatever the school district uses that the student lives in. As the students progress, I use the Suzuki repertoire as well as various scale and technique books. Read More
