I have several tools that I use to get students playing music.  One of my favorite tools is the Music Flashcards made by Bastien.  Rather than teaching notes using an acronym like "every good boy deserves fudge" to teach notes, I use landmarks which get students to see the relationship between notes and allow them to read music with fluidity and ease.  I pair these flashcards with Music Tree book 1 and feel that they compliment each other very well. I like to mix technique with songs and styles of music the student is interested in so they get a full understanding of why technique is important and how it applies to songs and musical selections that are of interest to the student. I first began teaching in high school at the suggestion of my own piano teacher. I loved the experience from the start - few things are more rewarding than watching a student develop their musical passion and skill from lesson to lesson. Aside from private lessons, I also interned with the Peabody Children's Chorus in MD.
