I began by tutoring my fellow students during college. Little by little, I realized that I was becoming more passionate about seeing the students progress and achieve the goals they set for themselves. There is almost no greater feeling than accomplishing a goal, and even though I always acknowledge and encourage students on their accomplishments, I believe there's always another step to take, another skill to master. I also believe, especially with beginners, that rooting a students skill with the bare basics is essential to understanding music. Read More

For younger students with no sight reading experience, I will typically start of with Ted Reed's book Syncopation. This book starts the student off with a very basic music notation vocabulary. Proficient sight reading skills are hugely important to the Drummer, as well as any other musician who will strive to succeed. Read More

My focus with each student is to tune into them in a way that I can then assess their physical, mental and emotional abilities. I ask each student what they want to learn with their instrument. If they do not know, we then start with the basics to establish a solid foundation in music with their instrument. Along the way, I ask the student what kind of music they like. Read More

Immediately after graduation, I moved to Los Angeles to enroll at the Musicians Institute (MI) Drum Performance Program, granted with two scholarships, the ‘Musicianship Scholarship’ and the ‘International Musicians Merit Scholarship’. I am very proud of the 15+ years of teaching music and the formal training I had in Music Education and at MI. In 2015, I had the opportunity to teach symphonic percussion to teenagers at Escola de Música da OSPA (Porto Alegre’s Symphony Orchestra school). Read More

I'm not a knuckle-rapping authoritarian. I find that casual and fun lessons amount to greater and faster improvement. I encourage instead of discourage and I love to watch the improvements come. I can't promise big venue tours but I can promise happy improvement. Read More
