I typically use the Alfred books for children who are just starting out, gradually introducing solo repertoire as they progress. Usually, each lesson starts with some warm up ear training and performing, we then transition into practice pad or snare drum exercises to help develop technique, then move on to reading and understanding notation, and finally we focus on drum kit performance and some improvisation.
