I love seeing students develope a passion for music. I find that your teacher plays a big part in your development as a musician so the last thing I want to do is force a student to play something they cannot. Instead I create exercises that help them develope the skill neccesary to complete a certain goal. This helps the student build discipline in learning and dedication to reach a goal Read More

In 2001 I was 14 growing up in Southern Wisconsin and developed a want to play guitar. I saw one for sale in a holiday catalog and asked my parents if I could get it. Luckily they said yes! I began lessons, and regular practice from there on. This new interest in music stoked a fire in my dads soul to begin playing drums again. He'd played regularly in a band til he was 18. Read More

Of course, every student is different, and an integral part of my philosophy involves getting to know each student so that I may learn their creative preferences, strengths, and weaknessness. I do not shy away from books, I do indeed enjoy working out of the Hal Leonard collection because I appreciate the step by step structure. This may apply less to guitar, however, if the student's primary ambitions are to learn songs by Green Day or The Beatles, etc. Read More

I enjoy sharing my musical knowledge to students so they will advance in their musical aims. In 1983, I attended The Guitar Institute of Technology and studied privately with Frank Gambale, who formalized the single line "sweep technique" on guitar. While in L.A. I also studied with Ed Mann, longtime Frank Zappa percussionist and teacher at Cal. Arts. In Boston, I became assistant to George Russell on the revision of his 1953 copyrighted and published book "The Lydian Chromatic Concept Of Tonal Organization" released in 2001. Read More

Looking back on the initial stages of my drumming career, its wild to think about just how quickly music and the drums consumed my thoughts. When I was not at home playing or jamming with friends, I was sitting in class tapping out rhythms on my legs to the point that teachers would become irritated with me. I just couldnt stop. I knew I had ideas within me that needed to be expressed, so I worked tirelessly to develop the vocabulary that I would need in order to express them. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2002, I graduated from UMass with a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance Music Education and then a Master's in Percussion from University of Illinois.Performing all over the country has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician to include the Midwest and all over the Northeast. I strongly believe that everyone is very different. Learning styles and musical goals are very much a part of this. Some find reading from a book helps them, so for most students I begin by recommending "A Modern Method For Guitar" from the Berklee Press, however for others a book is not as helpful as listening to some music and watching someone play. I like to introduce as much theory as is desired from the student because theory is a very important part of the musical process, but if the student prefers to get playing first and understand the “why” later then we can work something out in that regard. Depending on musical interest, we can work with different genre's and pieces to promote specific techniques and practice routines. Read More
