The one book I use for my students is Ted Reed's "Progressive Steps to Syncopation For The Modern Drummer". I use this book for my own benefit on a daily basis. Its interpretation and application is limited only by the student's or instructor's imagination. This book is such a great resource for assisting the student in learning basic reading skills. I am experienced professional mallet percussionist and bandleader with an emphasis on jazz and improvisation. In 2013, I was the first jazz vibraphonist be accepted in to The Juilliard School where I had the opportunity to mentor classical percussionists on how to improvise. Prior to Juilliard, I first attended Oklahoma City University studying music education/percussion performance. I understand that all students do not learn the same way. So, I am prepared to teach every student through auditory, visual, or written instructions, or a combination of those methods. I believe that it important for a student to learn how to read music, but I also understand that not all students will have this interest. I am a patient, encouraging, and fun teacher! I was placed in an Alternative High School in Manhattan called City As High School where I worked with students aged 16-21. Specifically, I worked with a program within the school called MAD (Music, Art, and Design) Academy.
