My teaching style is very thorough and patient. I welcome mistakes of course! It is not about how often you fall down, but about how you get up again. If you want to work hard, I will work hard as well. My students know the importance of regular practice in order to build dependable muscle memory in their playing. In a lesson we will spend half the amount of time working on technical building exercises and half the time working on repertoire. Read More

I draw attention to the importance of listening and help the student identify what to listen for. There is nothing more frustrating than practicing a particular fill 1000 times, only to later realize you've been practicing it incorrectly. This is very common among drummers young and old, but is easily dealt with by simply cultivating a sense of listening and apt imitation. However, I do not endorse perfectionism as a means of effective learning either, and I also will remind the student of the fact that sometimes when you're jamming, even if what what you're playing is not perfect, it's "good enough for rock and roll." This is part of the attitude of rock and roll that I feel is conducive to better, faster learning: a willingness to make mistakes, acknowledge them, learn from them, and move on. Read More

I have had a lifelong passion for music as far back as I can ever remember. I was exposed to a wide variety of different musical genres from a very young age, and developed an interest in percussion when I was 3 years old. Drumset is my main instrument, but I am also proficient in classical percussion, marching percussion, and mallets. in 2005, I studied at the BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts in Syosset, and in 2009 Ireceived a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Performance from SUNY New Paltz.Iwas a member of my High School Stage Band, Jazz Band, and was section leader/head snare drummer of the Commack High School Marching Band. Since then, I taught private lessons to students of all abilities at Oberlin for 5 years, I was a staff teacher at the Avon School of Music in Avon, Ohio, I was a music instructor and counselor at Camp Encore/Coda in Maine, as well as other camps more local to NY, and I am currently an employee of the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, where I am teaching music to kids at P.S 246. I have always taught in one form or another over the past 56 years, but spent the last 15 years honing my teaching skills and working with as many students at every level to ensure that what and how I teach is easily translated into plain language for the students. I've played drums and percussion in bands across many genres including Jazz, Rock, Soul, R & B, and Country. But I love to teach, which I do privately out of my home studio in Northern Westchester County, NY, as well as one-on-one lessons in your home. Read More

Throughout the years, starting back in college, I have had many wonderful performance opportunities. I have performed in Carnegie Hall in 2011 and 2012 with the LIU Post Wind Symphony and the LIU Post Chorus. I have also taken my performance from the classical world to the modern era being involved in the DCA Drum and Bugle Corps, The Long Island Sunrises in 2013, and the WGI Indoor Percussion Ensemble called Rage in 2006 and 2012. When teaching drums, it's important to have a structured approach that addresses the various aspects of drumming, such as technique, rhythm, dynamics, and musicality. Here's a general overview of the methods I would use: Technique Development: Proper technique is crucial for playing the drums effectively and avoiding injury. I would focus on teaching the proper grip, sticking patterns, and other technical exercises that help develop control, speed, and accuracy. Rhythm Training: Rhythm is the foundation of drumming, so I would make sure to incorporate exercises and exercises that help students develop their sense of timing, groove, and feel. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
