I have toured the country with Peter Frampton and others and have played big concerts including Madison Square Garden. I took lessons from several different drummers including Sonny Igoe. I learned during my time that if I wasn't having fun in my lessons it turned into a less enjoyable task. So I make sure that all my students have a good time, they enjoy learning and that I give them the tools to succeed. Read More

For beginners, I like to start my students off by Practicing out of Ted Reed's Syncopation and George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control. From these books, we will learn basic Sight reading, Rhythms, cordination and technique . For any of my students beyond the beginner's lever, I like to find out what their personal instrests are: A new Syle, Technique or a song that they would like to learn how to play. Read More

I typically like to start lessons with a warm up, and this is a good opportunity to see what level a student's technique is at. I immediately address anything that I see to be problematic in the student's technique, and we start working on ways to improve it as soon as possible. These can be simple exercises and when I see that my students are improving in these exercises and that their technique has gotten better, I always make sure that they also notice the difference and give them a sense of accomplishment. I learned a lot from the dozens of teachers I took private lesons with growing up. In 2010 I was a counselor for a music camp in Upstate New York. I worked with young kids and helped teach them pop/classic songs. I've had a Diaspora class in college on teaching drumset to beginngers. I learned quite a lot from that class- specifically teaching new beginners to drums. Since February 2016 I've been teaching drums to a handful of students through Musika. Read More

I am a very passionate and motivated instructor. Teaching drums and percussion is especially fun for me because its my main instrument. I have been teaching drums for almost ten years and my intensions are to never stop. I have played drums pretty much my whole life and have been fortunate enough to take that around the world. Playing everything from casual gigs to professional musicals and recording sessions. I have toured around the United States and Europe playing music with numerous bands. Read More

I tailor each lesson to the student’s needs and desires. I encourage all of them to develop reading, listening, coordination, and concentrating skills. I help each student to have the ability to play many different music styles and improvise in those styles. We work with developing the ear in order to play along with recorded music and teach them how to transcribe the songs so that they can document it for future use. Read More

I draw attention to the importance of listening and help the student identify what to listen for. There is nothing more frustrating than practicing a particular fill 1000 times, only to later realize you've been practicing it incorrectly. This is very common among drummers young and old, but is easily dealt with by simply cultivating a sense of listening and apt imitation. However, I do not endorse perfectionism as a means of effective learning either, and I also will remind the student of the fact that sometimes when you're jamming, even if what what you're playing is not perfect, it's "good enough for rock and roll." This is part of the attitude of rock and roll that I feel is conducive to better, faster learning: a willingness to make mistakes, acknowledge them, learn from them, and move on. Read More
