I started playing snare at 10 and drumset at 14 focusing mostly on rock drumming. I played quads and quints in marching band in high school and bass drum in college. I then studies jazz and percussion at Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University. I then studied Music composition at University of North Texas. I am a public school teacher here in Austin and I have done my best to incorporate music in the classroom. I have taught instruments to my students, recorded an album with student written songs, hosted school wide performances, and visited students at home for personalized music education. I like to use custom lesson plans. I evaluate the student's playing and ask what they want to improve on and/or want to learn. Based off of this, I might use rhythmic study exercises from Ted Reed's "Syncopation" or hand patterns from the book "Stick Control", playing on both a practice pad and the kit. I like to have students play a simple 8th note groove, backbeat on 2 & 4 and incorporate bass drum precision exercises, eventually using different hi hat patterns. Read More

I've studied classical music and music theory since I was 8-years-old and made the 5A Texas All-State Band my junior year of high school. I received a scholarship to study music education at A&M-Commerce University. After two years, I decided to move to San Marcos to perform in the central Texas area. Typically, lesson plans are build around students goals. Some students may not have an interest in learning from a "traditional" approach from a book. Although this is highly recommended, I create different lesson plans for each individual student. I typically use and coach students from "Stick Control: for the snare drummer", "Syncopation for the modern drummer" and "The Blue Book" for drums. I used to play drums for half of the music industry in Israel.
