I like to use custom lesson plans. I evaluate the student's playing and ask what they want to improve on and/or want to learn. Based off of this, I might use rhythmic study exercises from Ted Reed's "Syncopation" or hand patterns from the book "Stick Control", playing on both a practice pad and the kit. I like to have students play a simple 8th note groove, backbeat on 2 & 4 and incorporate bass drum precision exercises, eventually using different hi hat patterns. Read More

I started playing snare at 10 and drumset at 14 focusing mostly on rock drumming. I played quads and quints in marching band in high school and bass drum in college. I then studies jazz and percussion at Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University. I then studied Music composition at University of North Texas. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a passion for learning Drum Set. It is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I acknowledge accomplishments that helps fuel a students desire to progress. Also I want them to be eager to learn. I received a scholarship to study music education at A&M-Commerce University. After two years, I decided to move to San Marcos to perform in the central Texas area. I started playing drums and percussion 12 years ago, both classically, and privately trained. I was taught all play styles, and approaches to percussive arts. In high school, I was apart of a drum line and in 2015, I started drumming in a Rockabilly group in southern Illinois.
