There are many books on drums and piano or voice. I have to get to know the student to determine what I will use to get better results. It will depend on their age and attitude and initial talent. Also, a lot of kids are busy at school and don't have much time for practice. It means I need to get a lot done during the actual lesson and make sure that the info I m giving is settling in and there are no gray areas and questions of what to do until next lesson. Read More

Both students I've taught have had entirely different goals, one just trying to learn drumset and the other wanting to learn a song for his talent show. I am very passionate about drums and started teaching about 4years ago and I have helped many students get to where they want to get on their instrument. Always tried to teach them something they can use now(like a cool beat or fill), this way they get enthusiastic and stay with it. My wife talked me into teaching again. It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others.
