Overview:

Music is my passion. Coming from a family of musicians, I was inspired at a young age. At 8 years old, I started playing the drums. My grandfather, who played for Tommy Dorsey, was my deepest inspiration and motivated me to dial into my interest. Starting out, I played in church, the school jazz band, and took private lessons with Edd Dicapua. In 2006 I began teaching private lessons. In high school and some of college I went on tour with different bands. These experiences allowed me to learn various styles of drumming, as well as, equipped me with people skills.

EXPERIENCE

Over the last 12 years I have had the opportunity to teach private lessons in Tennessee and in Austin. I consider myself to be a very encouraging and knowledgable teacher who wants to cultivate an understanding of style, as well as, to read and write music. Sharing this gift with musicians I consider an honor to pass down my wisdom as my instructor did so with me. At your own pace we will explore skill level, different genres of music, and preference in style. I believe the key to being a successful drummer is to practice consistently and explore different aspects of music. This not only helps the student progress but makes the learning process fresh and fun.

METHODS USED

For beginner students I like to keep to the fundamental elements of Jazz and Rock grooves while focusing on various time signatures. Another key practice we will always be refining on are the rudiments. This will keep those chops sharp for direct accuracy and speed. For my more advanced students I conduct a learning program based off the students interests in styles and advancements, doing so keeps the student engaged in the lessons with room to grow. I like to acknowledge my students accomplishments and focus the areas that need more time than others.

LESSON STYLE

From an early age I made the decision to dedicate myself to the arts. Teaching music has been a reward for me. A teacher is considered a role model. By being a role model, I hope to inspire my students to want to learn more. I want to provide my students with knowledge to reach their full potential. I want to show them the tools they need to succeed. I hope years after they have left my lessons they remember how curious and engaged they felt. And above all I hope they feel capable. Seeing my students understand and develop a passion of music inspires me.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
