I am currently employed in East County as the choral and band director for an incredible middle school. Before that I was the director of music, bands, choirs, and performing arts in Harrison, New Jersey, right outside New York City. I believe in considering a students goals in developing my approach, so if someone wants to learn jazz, or loves a particular pop song, that is where well start. My teaching style begins with my assessment of each student's abilities, physical, mental, and emotional. By this method I am able to design a realistic program for each student. Patience and encouragement go hand in hand, acknowledging their accomplishments all along the way. Once some fundamentals are established, I add pieces that the student has an interest in learning. Within a broader structure, the student chooses what they want to work on. For all ages, I work to create a safe environment by actively encouraging mistakes. I began my career as a Band Director, working with at-risk students in an after school program which served both Coachella Valley and Desert Sands unified school district.
