My teaching style is warm, open, and adaptable, getting to know my students as an individuals to help them learn in the ways best for them. I believe in considering a students goals in developing my approach, so if someone wants to learn jazz, or loves a particular pop song, that is where well start. Within a broader structure, the student chooses what they want to work on. For all ages, I work to create a safe environment by actively encouraging mistakes. I am an instructor who believes that the best way to learn is by watching and learning the instructor, and then having the instructor demonstrate for the student. I have also worked with a contemporary community music school in San Diego with a "Rock" Focus, working with elementary and middle school drummers, vocalists, guitarists and pianists to form their own bands.Currently, in addition to teaching privately, I am an Arts Department Substitute Teacher for La Jolla Country Day School, working with both their band and orchestra programs in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools.
