I am very passionate about music. I love teaching students, composing, conducting, and more. In May of 2017, I graduate from Long Island University with a Master of Arts in Music Composition and Music Theory. During my studies at Long Island University, a solo violin work I composed was performed at the Moscow State Conservatory by Anastasia Vedyakova. A student will never practice if they're not having fun, and they won't have fun if they're being pushed harder than they want to be pushed. Therefore, when I start with a student, I always ask how much they want to improve and how quickly, how important music is to them, and how much time they're willing to invest daily. All of my students, depending on age, go through my curriculum which not only focuses on solo repertoire but learning how to be an essential part of any ensemble. I make sure I plan individual lessons and create overall schemes of work for my pupils so they can develop knowledge of materials and repertoire for them at different stages of their musical development. I extend my own musical experience by becoming familiar with the music my pupils listen to and music that is assigned from their primary music instructor, as well as have them become familiar with other musical styles and by developing improvisation and vocal skills. My teaching experience is varied, as I started as a music theory teacher in a piano studio, from 1995 to 2001. I taught theory to small groups of students, ages 3 to adult. I began teaching private clarinet lessons in earnest in 2005, working out of a music store in La Mesa; I taught there until 2011. During this time, I also taught band for a small private company in San Diego from 2006-2007. I took a break from music for a while, after a repetitive strain injury, and began my library career. For children who are just starting, I use Bastien Piano Basics Primer Level-Level 2. From here, students graduate to selections primarily from Bach, Chopin and Beethoven. For adults I use Alfred's beginner adult course. I also supplement these books with several books that I have in my personal library, such as Keith's Snell's Essential Piano Repertoire. For scales I use Keith Snell's series and for technique I use Schaum's Fingerpower series. Read More
