I have been teaching students consistently for over 30 years and have been teaching in my home studio for the last 10 years. Regular practice on a daily schedule is key for anyone wanting to achieve a level of proficiency that yields satisfaction on any level. Several of my students have gone on to professional employment on Broadway, touring bands, and recording studios as well as becoming private instuctors, music directors, and school music teachers. I began teaching saxophone in college, and since graduating I have taught students in Los Angeles as well as around the world, as far as New Zealand. I love to spread the knowledge I have gained from my experience as a professional musician to any up and coming musicians who want to learn. I teach all levels of saxophone up to the most advanced/professional, up to intermediate level on flute and trumpet, and beginner level clarinet. Read More

My start in music was unexpected; I was set on a life in academia as a literature student when an honor band experience late in high school led me to swerve into a life in performing music. I use a two pronged approach to my lessons. I start with fundamentals, especially focusing on two areas: sound and counting. 1.) Sound: Over the last 34 years, I've found that the student who does not sound good - even though he or she can play all notes and rhythms - will not be pleasing to anyone who hears them play. What good is it if he can play all rhythms and notes and sound bad? Read More

For beginning students I like to start in the Standard of Excellence Series as well as the Rubank Method Books. I also try to allow my students a chance to play something they want at the end of lessons. As my students advance we add in classical pieces as well as jazz, and improvisation. Older students and adults we can fgure out what you want from the lessons. I try to work it so it is enjoyable for you yet not as elementary. The goal is to become advanced enough to create your own music. Read More
