Hi! My name is Nish M. I am an improvising musician, specializing in Woodwinds (primarily the Saxophone and Clarinet), Composing/Arranging/Producing/Recording. I attended the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2010 where I studied Jazz Performance. I stayed in Sydney until 2020, where I did a lot of work as a session musician, (The Voice, Solange Knowles, Yolanda Be Cool, ++...) I began teaching private lessons eight years ago during college. By the end of 2015 I had a studio of over 30 students. I tend to focus on developing a student's sound concept first, so that they can get a beautiful sound out of the instrument at an early age. I also encourage students to play ear-training games and develop an independent melodic sensibility early on. For beginning and intermediate students I like to teach out of the Rubank Method books. They have pieces that focus on one issue or another and are short enough to encourage students to simply become used to the idea of practicing every day. Once the student has some basic fundamentals it is always nice to work on a piece of repertoire. Again certain challeges are adressed and met through this as well, but the goal is also to have a chance to perform it, displaying a practical application to the student's accomplishments and hopefully encouraging the student to become further interested.
