I started teaching music lessons back when I was 14, when friends would ask for tips or lessons, and local parents wanted lessons for their children. I fell in love with the act of helping others to realize the music inside them, and have been teaching consistently ever since. Learning any musical instrument involves learning about oneself. This is something that I try to move through fairly quickly as to help the student progress to material that they are interested in. From there we will continue to build their foundation, but by learning from material that they have brought in. For beginning young students I prefer the Rubank Elementary Method for saxophone, clarinet and flute, and my own (unpublished) method for recorder. For older beginners, there are many books on the market. I'll work with what the student perfers. For more advanced students there are classic works such as Klose for clarinet or saxophone, solo works for competition or performance, or just for fun.
