I create my own lesson plans based off of the individual student. For voice students, we usually warm up, do technical exercises working on varying registers and techniques, and then work on repertoire. I often find the passages in a particular song that the student is struggling with and focus in on those, finding exercises to guide the student. For beginning guitar students depending on age, I use two books: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, and the FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method. For more advanced students, I use he Berklee College of Music books. We begin with simple finger exercises to build finger strength. From there, first position chords, strumming patterns. For students who have no experience, I start with Alfreds Kids Guitar Course 1. I want my students to learn the essentials such as basic reading skills, beginner chords, and basic theory. For my students that have this foundation built, I teach using the Major Method. This method was created by my teacher, Rolf Sturm, who insists that its the fastest and easiest way to learn the entire neck of the guitar. Read More

I taught students ages 5-7 in the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls' Jumpstart program, and ages 8-18 in Willie Mae's Girls Rock Program. At Willie Mae, I taught mostly group lessons. I have also taught group theory and fundamentals lessons at the Brooklyn Music School in Fort Greene, where I work currently as a counselor. By late high school I began teaching private lessons and began preforming local shows with bands. After a few years of private lessons, I was offered a percussion teaching position at the private music school, Tri-Key Music Center, in Hawthorne NJ. Teaching a wide variety of ages and styles, from 5 year olds to 55 year olds, from pop drumming to traditional hand drums, this forced me to broaden my musical abilities further to meet the needs of my students.
