I teach Suzuki and Energy Efficient Cello Technique. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Cello Book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I started out as a percussionist, studying throughout high school and in to college at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. During my time in Boston, I discovered a bustling bluegrass music scene and my focus switched to stringed instruments, namely the mandolin and the violin. For very beginning students, I usually start with the Suzuki Method Books and All For Strings Comprehensive String Method Books. I usually encourage my students to read music, but for the youngest students I start by playing with them and having them copy me. Once they are ready, I start teaching them basic music theory that will help them read music. For intermediate to advanced players I institute a routine of practicing scales and etudes as well as a solo piece that is appropriate for their ability level. Read More

We should be cautious about what we say to avoid any miscommunication. All students should be treated the same. The important aspect would be its ability. Standards would remain the same for all based on individual abilities. In addition, encouragement with some gentle push is crucial. My teaching career started during my undergraduate degree at Juilliard where I was deeply involved with several educational programs, both in and out of Juilliard. I taught cello at the Union City Music Project, The Washington Heights Conservatory, the MAP pre-college program at Juilliard, and also taught privately.
