I will ask you to stick with lessons even through struggles of slow progress so that you will not have to synthesize quite as much information on your own and to practice consistently to achieve the best results. Keep the video of your first lesson and review it occasionally, then see how far you've come. Play in front of people as much as you can, and build ways to maintain composure as you perform. Teaching for me really became serious in 2018. I started with teaching in my own home and did go to the houses of my students as well for a short time. I do my best to give my students a good practice regimen that they can use to practice everyday, while also providing them tips to practice the pieces that they are trying to put together on their own. I feel that teaching this way, the student builds confidence and the ability to tackle any particular technique or aspect of music. Read More

For beginning students, the first things to learn are how to hold the violin. Setup and posture are the most important steps to avoid developing bad habits and the possibility of getting injured. Upon learning the basics of how to hold the violin and the bow is learning how to read music and sing music. If a student knows the basic setup of the violin/piano and knows how to read music then I would start them on repertoire fitted to their level. Read More

The main takeaway I want my students to walk away with after our lessons is that they enjoy playing the violin. I believe that encouragement and patience are huge parts of music education. However, I also like to push my students to take challenges and reach their highest potential. This is why I encourage students to play in recitals, choose pieces they want to learn, and work on a few works at a time (including etudes, scales, short pieces, concerti, etc.). Read More

I started teaching in high school, and I've been teaching consistently for the past 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn.
