I have been playing the cello for forty years and teaching for twenty. I love helping students of all ages realize their goals of playing and performing cello music. Although I do not have an academic background in music, I have studied privately with teachers who have been members of the New York Philharmonic and Juilliard faculty. In addition to playing and performing chamber music for the past thirty years in local venues, I am also a co-founder of the American Chamber Orchestra, a community orchestra that has performed for twenty seasons and toured Europe with performances in many countries. I graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelor's degree in Classical Cello Performance. I began playing cello in elementary school, and not soon after began participating in Youth Orchestras both in New Jersey and in New York. After attending several music festivals over the summer, I took an interest in music as a career. For beginners, I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Book 1 for cello. These books give a firm structure and introduce classical pieces as well as familiar tunes. Once we finish these two method books, I focus on what the student is more interested in. Are they geared towards classical, or do they really like showtunes? Whatever their interest may be, I find suitable repertoire and continue to challenge and strenghten their abilities. Read More
